Spring has sprung, which means it’s time to celebrate!
We celebrate daffodils, columbines, and first bloomers in the garden.
Ice cream trucks, camp signup forms, and that new pair of FitFlops that you deserve. The pair with sequins.
And, here on AuPairMom, we celebrate Mother’s Day and AuPairAppreciation week!
For both events, we’ll have a focused open thread.
For Mother’s Day
We’ll have one post open for the weekend, from Saturday May 9 and Sunday May 10. (Sunday is Mothers Day, in case you’ve missed all those Macy’s ads for perfume.)
For the Mother’s Day open thread, we invite Au Pairs to celebrate something wonderful about their Host Moms. Host Dads may also chime in with celebrating– as long as the focus remains something wonderful about the Host Mom.
Seventh Annual International AuPair Appreciation Week: May 17 to May 25
For our Seventh Annual International AuPairAppreciation Week, we’ll have one open thread pinned at the top of the page, with other blog posts appearing underneath. That way, we can appreciate AuPairs while we continue to solve each other’s problems and address each other’s questions. I hope, too, that this strategy will help us stay focused on *** Appreciation ***.
Anyone found hijacking these open threads with comments about anything other than Wonderful Host Moms and Things We Appreciate About Our Au Pairs will… well, I don’t know, but it will be something awful. :-)

I am sad that there are no comments from au pairs or host dads about all the awesome Host Mom’s around (including me I hope ;-) so I am just going to do a shout out to everybody to squeeze in a last minute Happy Mother’s Day to all HM’s! It was my 1st as a host mom & my 2nd year with 3 kids & my best mother’s day so far (even squeezed in a date night thanks to the au pair!). I got to sleep in a little, flowers, pancakes & a mother’s day brunch too — am just dreaming that next year maybe there will be breakfast in bed, actual Mother’s Day cards from hubby/kids (they’re all 3 & under), and hopefully no house construction (long story!). Thanks AuPairMom.com :-)
There are! On the other thread! There are quite a few!
Mother’s Day in the UK was back in March so I did all the cards and flowers and things before Easter!
That said, in the spirit of cultural exchange I would like to say felice giorno della mamma to my lovely first HM. Never angry, works 24/7, never has time to herself, never says ‘no’, and she still found time to sit and chat with me for hours every night. We skype/whatsapp regularly and although sadly I won’t be able to visit them this summer I’m looking forward to when I’m next in Italy and can see her.
