Pinning Your Hopes on a Happy Holiday: Gift Ideas from APIA’s Christine Connally

by cv harquail on December 22, 2012

There are several concessions that I have to make regarding online tools so that I can actually get my behind and my attention out from in front of my computer. With work that requires reading, writing, editing and analyzing data, and hobbies that invite reading, writing, surfing and rabbit holes, there are things to which I must say “No”.

And the #1 thing that I say “No” to these days?

Pinterest

pinter2.png I cannot bear the relentless assault of images, objects, potential gifts for myself, good taste, and envy that to me characterize Pinterest. So, refusing the entreaties of my sister, my BFF Leslie, and all those social media gurus who tell us that images are more viral that words, I have stayed off Pinterest.

My loss. But not yours.

A Pinterest pinboard is a great tool for assembling clusters of ideas, that are not only easy to share but easy to scan. Christine Connally, one of Au Pair In America’s Sr. Counselors, along with her colleagues put together these two pinboards with gift ideas for au pairs and host families.

I can share these with you, but only with fair warning — set aside some time, and take a mug of tea with you to your computer. It also helps to have your credit card handy.

Hi CV– Our community counselors get requests for holiday gift suggestions every year from host parents and au pairs who want ideas about what to give each other for the holidays.

This year, we created some pinboards to share some of these ideas, and I’d like to share them with you:

Have a great holiday season! Christine

These are full of great ideas. Thanks for putting them together. (Note to CV – the link to the second board isn’t formatted right. Should be an easy fix.)

Actually this brings up another point – this would be a great resource for au pairs to use to plan activities with kids!

Just now noticed that APIA has a lot of great resources on their pinterest board. I will definitely be passing this site onto my next au pair.
