Build the Mothers’ Rights Movement!

by cv harquail on April 10, 2009

Up to this point I haven’t posted here at AuPairMom on topics beyond the particular world of hosting Au Pairs, but today I’m making an exception to share the offer I got, below, from an organization that I really believe in: MomsRising. MomsRising is an organization whose

"members are bringing important motherhood and family issues to the forefront of the country’s awareness. We are working to create both cultural and legislative change. It is time to break the logjam that has been holding back family-friendly legislation for decades and to advance workplace policies that will support families."

Given your own personal politics, you may or may not agree with MomsRising’s political initiatives (see note below), but I think that most moms will agree with their general goals of:
mommanifesto.jpg
M – Maternity/Paternity Leave
O – Open Flexible Work
T – TV We Choose and Other After-School Programs
H – Healthcare for All Kids
E – Excellent Childcare
R – Realistic and Fair Wages

Anyway, MomsRising is doing some consciousness-raising for Mothers’ Day, and they are offering a free book to the first 1,000 who request it. Because I believe in this cause and because I already have the book (and think it’s great!) I’m sending this offer on to you ….

"This year for Mother’s Day, I am giving my mom and my mother-in-law a free copy of The Motherhood Manifesto, the groundbreaking book that launched the MomsRising movement. And, I get to share the important message of MomsRising with other moms in my life for FREE (I just pay $5 shipping and handling for the book).

Would you also like a free copy of this fabulous book to keep or share?

With everything families are juggling- work, home, school, everything else- we are expected to be super-moms. How about changing the world to be super for moms? The Motherhood Manifesto calls for building a world with flexible work options, healthcare for all, early childhood education, safe environments, and more family-friendly policies.

Get your free copy for just $5 to cover shipping and handling today ($14.95 retail value).

You can receive a copy of the book absolutely free, courtesy of your friends at MomsRising. Read it yourself, or give it to a friend or family member as a mother’s day gift. We only have a limited number of copies, so this offer applies to the first 1,000 people who respond, so please respond quickly.

Why are we sharing this special offer? Because we believe that when moms and the people who love them work together we can change the world. As a MomsRising member, you are already an important participant in a growing movement to build a more family-friendly America. We know that after you (and your friends and family) read The Motherhood Manifesto, you will be even more inspired to continue our important work."

[Note: Interesting. Just an hour after this was posted, a subscriber unsubscribed… and indicated “reason02: Offensive, strongly disagree or disapprove”. Not sure that was about this post, then Henhouse, or Au Pair comments. But this is the first time that’s happened. Hmmm.]
