As shared by a Host Mom
Unfortunately, with three transitions under our belt in a little over a year, our family has not had the best experience with the Au Pair program. Many people have asked us why we don’t just throw in the towel and put our kids in day care. Well, aside from the fact that we don’t want our kids out of the home and I work very long hours, t he wonderful AP across the street is the main reason!
She has been a real lifesaver for us for the past few months. She has done everything from:
— taking care of our kids along with hers when our temporary childcare was unavailable,
— assisting me in screening potential AP candidates (from her home country), and
— generally reassuring me that my family and more importantly my children are nice people who an AP would be lucky to live with!
If we could steal her we would!
As a reward for how great she is, we have arranged with her host family to take her with us on our family vacation to Disneyland, which will also be soon after we welcome our new AP. I am sure having her on this trip will only further assist us in that she will serve as a great support for the new AP.
